How reviews work

Where the numbers come from

A company’s rating is the plain average of its community reviews’ overall scores (1–5 stars), shown with the full distribution so you can see the spread, not just the mean. The culture breakdown averages only the areas each reviewer chose to rate — skipped areas never count against a company.

Leader ratings

A leader’s rating at a company is the average of that company’s reviews which specifically mention them. It is counted, never inferred: no mentions, no number. Leaders can claim their profile and respond; responses appear beside the reviews they answer, never above them.

Anonymity

You sign in only so we know you’re one person. Everything you post appears under a generated handle (like @candid_operator_4821). Your name, email, and employer are never displayed, never shared, and never shown to the companies reviewed.

“From around the web”

Sourced material — Reddit threads, news, posts on X — is quoted briefly, clearly attributed, and linked to the original. It is shown in a visibly different style from community reviews and never counts toward any rating. Where we publish an AI-written summary of sources, it is labeled as such and every claim links to where it was said.

The gate

Signed-out visitors can read a company’s top reviews free; signing in (still anonymous) unlocks the rest. Contributions — a review or an answered question — are how the pool everyone reads gets deeper.
